Why I Do What I Do

I decided to pursue a career in financial planning after an extremely frustrating, stressful, and exhausting personal experience.

I have always had a deep interest in finance and investing. I have a degree in economics, an MBA, and I began my career in investment banking. But despite that, I felt completely unprepared to make certain personal financial decisions when I learned my wife was pregnant with our first child. For example, what type of life insurance should we get? How much did we need? Which life insurance companies should we consider?

I wasn't sure where to start. I began educating myself as best I could but for every article recommending one thing, I found another suggesting the exact opposite. I felt paralyzed and not any closer to making a decision.

I reached out to people I trusted and spoke with insurance agents and brokers that friends and family had worked with previously. But many of these professionals recommended products that I sensed weren't appropriate for me given the research I had already done.

Time went on and I simply avoided making a decision, but I kept reading and learning more when I had the chance. I started to understand how different professionals were compensated and I discovered the seemingly unending conflicts of interest that exist within the financial services industry. When I revisited articles I’d read earlier, that seemed so convincing at the time, I began to notice flaws in the arguments.

Eventually, I felt confident enough to purchase life insurance policies for my wife and for myself. I had originally wanted to have these in place by the time my daughter was born. I signed the first insurance contract and paid the first premium the week after her first birthday.

While it was certainly better late than never, the experience motivated me to make sure I didn't put myself or my family in that position again. I began thinking about how I could help others avoid similar situations.

I took the required coursework, successfully completed the national licensing exams, and began working with clients. Now I spend my time providing unbiased, unbought, personalized guidance to help my clients find and remain on a path to financial security. I'm very proud of that. I hope I can do that for you.
